Your Child’s First Dental Visit
For many kids, visiting the dentist for the first time can be a fearful experience. At Crater Lake Dental, we understand this reality, so we strive to make their first dental appointments enjoyable and relaxed.
To that end, we’ll ensure the visit is a short one. First, your child will meet and chat with the dentist for a few minutes. Engaging your child in playful conversation can help put them at ease and set a fun, light-hearted tone for the rest of the visit.
Next, we’ll take a look at your child’s teeth. This is a very gentle exam. During this exam, we’ll check for signs of tooth decay, examine the bite, and check the gums, jaw, and oral tissues. If necessary, we’ll also gently clean the teeth.
Finally, we will talk to you and your child about good oral health habits, educate your child on how to brush and floss their teeth, and give you ideas on how to encourage these healthy habits in your little one’s routine.
Healthy Changes for a Lifetime of Smiles
Some of the topics we may discuss with you and your child may include the following:
- Healthy habits and oral hygiene practices, including brushing and flossing.
- How to prevent cavities.
- Uses and advantages of fluoride.
- Developmental milestones.
- Teething and losing baby teeth.
- Healthy diet as well as foods to avoid.
- Importance of visiting the dentist every six months.
- How to deal with negative oral habits, including thumb sucking and tongue thrusting.
At Crater Lake Dental, we’re committed to helping your child develop healthy habits when it comes to their teeth, gums, and smile. Although these goals are important, we’re just as committed to making their experience at the dentist as pleasant and enjoyable as possible.
